About Wendy Carbone
-
Background
- I am a first generation American, the youngest of three
children born to Joaquim Seco and Maria (Cordeiro) Seco. My
father worked as a shepherd from the age of 8 until he was old
enough to serve his time in the Portuguese Army. Years later,
he moved from the mainland of Portugal to the Azores Islands, where
he met my mother. They lived there for several years before
they and my two older sisters came to the United States in 1965 and
settled in New England, which is where I was born and grew up.

Marrying
into the Military - I met my soul mate, about 17 years ago at a
coffee shop in our hometown of Newington, Connecticut. At the
time I was a senior in high school and Danny was working the family
business. In 1993 Danny joined the Army and we were married
just a few months later making me
a
Real
Army
Wife!
Since then, we have lived the "typical" (if you can call it that)
Army life. Like most military families, we have endured,
unaccompanied tours, deployments, extensions, overseas duty
assignments, lots and lots of TDY (temporary duty), separations due
to schools, and more. Despite the challenges of this
lifestyle, we have found that there are many benefits as well.
We have been able to travel to parts of the world we otherwise would
not have. (Granted Danny could have done without a few of them, but
still great experiences for us both.) We have also added four
amazing children into our family who get to experience the ups and
downs of military life. We have made some terrific
friends along the way and we enjoy the sense of pride and patriotism
that comes with this lifestyle. We still have several years to
go before Danny retires and we all transition into the "civilian
world", so for now we just try to make the most of each day of this
"Army life".

About
RealArmyWives.com
This website
was created after hearing much complaint about how military wives
are portrayed on Lifetime's "Army Wives" television show. As
much as I absolutely enjoy the show, and take it for what it
is...entertainment, not a documentary....I felt that we needed a
place to have our voices heard and give insight into the lives of
Real
Army
Wives.
This website is an ongoing project for me and I hope it will serve
to encourage, inform, and entertain all our site visitors.

Soulmates
Two people who are destined to be together.
Thomas Moore
describes a soul mate as "someone to whom we feel profoundly
connected, as though the communication and communing that take place
between us were not the product of intentional efforts, but rather a
divine grace. |
