President Bush Announces Shorter Deployments

Good news for troops deploying after August 1, 2008!  President Bush announced that tours will be shortened from 15 months to 12 months.  He also said that officials would ensure troops have at least a year at home between deployments. Unfortunately, the change will not affect those already deployed.  Voice your opinion!

2008 GI Bill Benefits UPDATE!

On June 30, 2008, President Bush announced the H.R. 2642, the Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2008.  It states, in part, "So I'm pleased that the bill I sign today includes an expansion of the GI Bill. This legislation will make it easier for our troops to transfer unused education benefits to their spouses and children. It will help us to recruit and reward the best military on the face of the Earth. It will help us to meet our responsibilities to those who support our troops every day -- America's great military families."

BEWARE Of Scams Targeting Military Families!

I FOUND $100,000!!

This is no joke!
I found $100k
that I never knew I had and you might too!

Scams targeting military members and their families are on the rise.  This is mainly due to the fact that although most of us aren't wealthy, we do have a steady income.  Additionally, constant deployments brings extra income, which these dishonest people are after.  Some common scams include predatory lending such as payday loans, car title loans and advance-fee loans, investments with extremely high front-end fees,  insurance companies who use illegal tactics to coerce military members into buying their insurance, home based business scams, pyramid schemes, and identity theft.

RED CROSS SCAM - One of the most recent identity theft scams targets families of deployed soldiers.  Someone calls claiming to be with the Red Cross, tells you your soldier has been injured and needs to be transported to a hospital in Germany.  They ask for his social security number and date of birth in order to allow for treatment and transport.  Families should never give personal information out to unknown persons over the phone.

Kiplinger Magazine, has a great article on this topic which includes ideas on how to protect yourself and find better deals.

Since September 11, 2002, Patriot Day honors & remembers the nearly 3,000
people who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on our nation on
September 11, 2001.

As a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, 2,974 fatalities have been reported.

On Oct. 25, 2001, with a vote of 407-0, U.S. House Joint Resolution 71 was approved.

It stated that the President designate September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day."

President George W. Bush signed the resolution into law
on December 18, 2001 (as Public Law 107-89).

On this day, the President directs that United States flag be flown at half-staff and
displayed from individual American homes, at the White House, and on all
U.S. government buildings and establishments, at home and abroad.

On this Patriot Day, RealArmyWives.com would like you to join us in sending our
thoughts and prayers to the many families & friends who lost loved ones in the 9/11
attacks. We would also like to express our deepest respect and appreciation to the
courage and patriotism of all our Veterans, active Military, firefighter & police heroes.
We thank & salute you for all that you have done to protect our great nation,
and for continuing our fight against the War on Terror.
